Ben benieuwd..
President Abdoulaye Wade has promised Friday a''special program ''for the city of Ziguinchor, which''should be rebuilt to be a jewel of Senegal'', he said during a meeting at Pedro Gomis stadium.
APS
Arrived in Ziguinchor at 2 pm with his chief of staff and other officials, the president headed to the Governor Palace, where he held a series of meetings.
''Despite everything that has been done (...) there will be a special plan for the city of Ziguinchor''said Abdoulaye Wade who has expressed his ambition to modernize’’ some cities so that they have nothing to envy to foreign cities.''
''I take some cities and I make them real jewels. And on this short list, Ziguinchor figures prominently'', President Wade said.
Beforehand, he intends to address sanitation and sewerage in developing a sanitation program, road constructions, improvement of lighting and drinking water.
For all of this work, Wade has announced the construction in Ziguinchor or somewhere in Casamance of a cement factory.
''This beautiful region of the South must play a leading role in the economy of Senegal'', he said, adding,''you have everything you need here for it .''
''With your executives, we will make a binding program whose provisions will be respected'', Abdoulaye Wade launched. The Head of State has promised the rebuilding of Emile Badiane bridge and also he said he plans on building a second one.
He also promised to modernize the University of Ziguinchor, which is in its''infancy'', he said.
According to witnesses, groups of students who wanted to demonstrate at the airport before the Head of State were scattered with police tear gaz.
''I meet the young people (...) they said we want to stay in Ziguinchor and have a good university”, said Wade during the meeting.
The Head of State said he agreed with them. He has promised to equip, expand and modernize the University of Ziguinchor; including ensuring that all field of studies are available at the university.

Funding available for the promotion of the Saloum Delta and the unknown Bassari region

To make a better use of the Saloum Delta and the Bassari region, the Ministry of Culture and Historical Heritage has launched a project worth 3, 5 billion Francs CFA.
The Dakar Times
For a sustainable tourism development, it is important that the target be extended to other areas of the country. The tourist image of Senegal is too focused on long beaches and the beautiful sun. Today, tourism development requires combining government efforts with those of private sector actors.
In order to promote the tourism sector in the Saloum Delta and the Bassari zone, it is also important to take into account the aspirations of local population and visitors expectations.
The project is to be implemented in the Bassari “country” around Salémata and Bandafassi areas. In the Saloum Delta, it will be erected in Toubacouta. According to Bouri Jean Victor Sanhouidi Coordinator of United Nations system, the target population is estimated at 300 000.
These regions, despite their potential, have not experienced a real economic take-off. Today, the need for actions to promote the marketing of local products on a large scale is needed. And for that, it will focus particularly in infrastructure building to attract new investors.
According to the Ministry of Culture, the choice of the Saloum Delta and the Bassari “country” is justified. "These two ecological niches have incalculable natural harbor potentials." The Saloum Delta is a natural site that has resources that can make the area the breadbasket of Senegal. As for the Bassari “country”,it is full of wealth and cultures that must be promoted for the benefit of the people.
With 3.5 billion U.S. dollars funding, the project will develop a grassroots approach with local people. A cross-cutting project that will involve the Ministry of Culture and Historical Heritage, the ministry in charge of Senegalese living aboard, craft and tourism, the ministry of environment, family, decentralization, the ministry of youth and the ministry of Economy and Finance. These departments will collaborate with agencies of the UN system for the project's success.
